IIMB Director Professor G. Raghuram receives Mahindra Transport Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award

Mahindra Transport Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award, supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways  recognizes Change Leadership, Excellence and Innovation, as well as efforts towards unique thinking, unacceptance of limits and bringing about positive change.

Professor G. Raghuram, our director,  was conferred with this award on March 7th, and was the first academician to receive the award since its inception. He also released his new book during the award ceremony.

Professor Raghuram who is a PhD from Northwestern University, USA and a postgraduate from IIM Ahmedabad (PGDM) did his B.Tech from IIT Madras. He is a specialist in infrastructure, logistics, transport and supply chain management. He is on the board of 6 companies and forms a part of various government advisory committees.

On receiving the award, Professor Raghuram said “I am humbled and honoured. As a multinational auto maker, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is one of India’s most admired companies. That they, in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, are taking the transport ecosystem development to the next level by honouring individuals and institutions with awards for their critical roles in the transport industry in India is commendable.”

 Professor BV Doshi (IIMB Architect) Receives Pritzker Prize

Professor BV Doshi, 90, received the 2018 Pritzker Prize, the highest honor in architecture. He was the first recipient from India  to be conferred this award. He is considered a pioneer of low cost housing and has worked with legends like Le Corbusier and Louis Khan.

The award will be bestowed upon him at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto in May and he will be the 45th laureate to receive it. On his achievement, he said “It is a very wonderful thing that happened” from his home in Ahmedabad.

Professor Doshi’s buildings are centered on the theme of connecting with silence, how life can be lived at our own pace and how to avoid the use of an automobile. He emphasizes on communal spaces and spaces designed to encourage exchange of ideas which include gardens and outdoor amphitheaters.

Professor Doshi has taught and lectured all over the world and has founded six schools including the School of Architecture and Planning in Ahmedabad.

And last but not the least, he is the man responsible for designing the walls we all have lived in and made the best of memories. He is the one who designed our IIMB Campus that shines bright with sunrays each day, reflecting the glory of our collective achievements.
