Obituary – Prof. Vatsala Nagarajan
Professor Vatsala Nagarajan, one of our faculty stalwarts, passed away on 15 may at 4.30 pm.
Prof. Vatsala Nagarajan joined IIM Bangalore on February 1, 1974, in the Finance area. She served as Dean from April 18, 1991 to September 30, 1992, before retiring from the services of the Institute on September 30, 1992. An outstanding teacher, friend, guide, and mentor to students, staff and faculty, Professor Vatsala was always approachable, supportive and positive.
As one of our Distinguished Alums, Vaidyanathan put it: “Prof Vatsala Nagarajan was easily the most approachable among the faculty, and the one with the most holistic view and way of dealing with students and alumni of IIM, Bangalore.”
Her husband, Shri KS Nagarajan, passed away just this Sunday. It was like they were destined to leave together.
It is a matter of providence that on 27th July, 2018, ‘Guru Purnima’ day, we dedicated a classroom at the IIMB campus in the name Professor Vatsala Nagarajan. This effort was led by the PGP Class of 1992. This was the first time in the history of IIMB that we had a classroom named after a faculty member. On that day, the 86-year-old professor was accompanied by her husband for the dedication.
Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
