PGPPM alumnus Amitesh Bharat Singh conferred with President’s Award for ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’

Amitesh Bharat Singh, an alumnus of the 2015-16 batch of IIM Bangalore’s one-year fulltime Master of Management Studies in Public Policy – Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM), has been conferred with the President’s Award for ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’, on the occasion of Republic Day 2021, as notified by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
Appointed to the IRS (Customs & Central Excise) in 1997, Amitesh Singh currently heads the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Zonal Unit in Karnataka. DRI is the apex intelligence and investigation agency for transborder crimes.
He has earlier occupied various positions in Customs, Service Tax and Central Excise, GST formations in India, including the Directorate of Taxpayer Service for the Karnataka and Kerala Region. He also served as a diplomat, being stationed as the First Secretary (Commerce) at the Indian High Commission from 2011 to 2014. He has also served earlier as the Deputy Director DRI at Delhi.

ICICI Lombard General Insurance, India’s largest private sector general insurer in terms of gross direct premium income, has a diversified product portfolio, including major segments of fire, home, health, accident, motor and travel insurance. The insurer, established in 2000, had a gross direct premium income of 13,313 crores in FY19 and has grown at an annual rate of 13.9% between financial years 2015 and 2020. Profits, meanwhile, expanded by 17.4% annually to 1,194 crores during the period.


Mahindra & Mahindra appoints Manoj Bhat as Group CFO

Mr. Manoj Bhat (PGP 1996) has been appointed as Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., with effect from April 2, 2021. Mr. Bhat moves to Mahindra Group from Tech Mahindra Ltd., where he has been the CFO since June 2018.

His appointment comes in the backdrop of the current Deputy Managing Director and Group CFO of the Mahindra Group, Anish Shah slated to take over as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from April 2, 2021, replacing the incumbent Pawan Goenka who will retire.


Radha Dhir to succeed Ramesh Nair as JLL India CEO

JLL India has announced that its CEO Ramesh Nair is leaving the company to pursue opportunities outside the firm.  Nair will be replaced by Radha Dhir (PGP 1995) as the new CEO of the firm. Dhir is an experienced financial service executive who had held senior positions at YES Bank and Deutsche Bank in the past.

Radha Dhir was previously the Group President at YES Bank, where she was the Head of Multinational Banking. Before joining YES Bank, Dhir served as the Managing Director, Head of Global Subsidiary Coverage Group, Deutsche Bank India, and a member of the Deutsche Bank India Executive Committee.


Arjun Chowdhry to head Citi’s consumer banking in India

Mr. Arjun Chowdhry (PGP 1994) has been appointed Head of Consumer Banking in India by Citibank, a consumer division of financial services multinational Citigroup, which has among the most extensive retail portfolio in MNCs. With this appointment, Chowdhry will manage Citi’s consumer businesses, including retail banking, wealth management, cards, and mortgages, in India.

Mr. Chowdhry joined Citi as a Management Associate and has worked across a variety of roles, including consumer operations, wealth management, Suvidha (Citi At Work), NRI and deposit products, credit cards, loans & payments. Previously, as head of credit cards, payments, and unsecured lending, he expanded Citibank’s credit card portfolio by adding white label card propositions and co-branded cards and many digital initiatives.

Abhik Basu pictures makes it to Top 20 – POTY 2020

Many Congratulations to Abhik Basu, EPGP 2012, to be named as one of the top 20 in the Australian category of POTY 2020 !!!

Abhik received this recognition for images taken of the pilgrims en route Gangasagar in Dec 2019. He has also received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Animal & Nature category and a ‘Commended’ in the Black & White category. A book authored by Professor U Dinesh Kumar, Chair, Master of Business Administration in Business Analytics and faculty in the Decision Sciences area of IIM Bangalore, titled, ‘Business Analytics: The Science of Data – Driven Decision Making’, appears frequently on the Amazon Best Seller list. The book was published by Wiley in 2017.

IIMB Chennai Chapter Event: An evening with Former Indian Cricketer WV Raman

IIMBAA Chennai hosted a talk series for IIMB Alumni featuring Former Indian Cricketer WV Raman, Head Coach, Indian Women’s Cricket Team & Author, The Winning Sixer.

It was an interactive session where WV spoke about the various aspects of management & team-building from his experiences from the game of cricket!

CP Madhusudan, Director, IIMBAA Chennai welcomed the gathering while Merben Jayakaran, Deputy Director – Operations, IIMBAA Chennai proposed the Vote of Thanks!

Team Alpha Managers from IIMB wins national finals of world’s largest venture capital investment competition VCIC

The Alpha Managers, a team of second-year MBA students from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), comprising Anay Dalal, Jugal Shah, Piyush Kabra, Pratik Amrutkar and Samir Shah, has won the national finals of the 2021 edition of VCIC, a prestigious global venture capital investment competition. The winning team will now represent India at the VCIC Global Finals in April 2021, which will be hosted by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

IIMB’s NSRCEL invites applications for its Healthcare Incubation Program

NSRCEL, the start-up hub at IIM Bangalore, invites applications to the first cohort of the Healthcare Incubation Program. The program is designed to support ideation to proof-of-concept stage ventures who have the potential to increase access and affordability of healthcare in India.
