Student Corner: Hangout with Alums – Mohammad Sarosh, PGP 2017
The second session in the Hangout with Alums series featured the rapidly growing and sought-after domain of Product Management as its theme. The speaker invited was Mr. Mohammad Sarosh, an alumnus of the PGP batch of 2015-17 of IIM Bangalore, and currently a Program Manager at Microsoft, where he is responsible for managing Outlook on the mobile browser.
Mr. Sarosh followed a highly structured approach towards the session, classifying the queries of the numerous students in the audience into different themes and then addressing each of them one by one. He covered aspects regarding the skill sets required to enter the product management field, whether prior technical experience is useful for this career, and described a typical day in the life of a product manager. He emphasized the importance of putting oneself in the consumer’s shoes for a product manager, and how product managers go about getting major work done despite having little formal authority over other departments.
The session was commended by the attendees, who found it extremely helpful and left the session with a keen sense of product management as a potential career option.
Hangout with Alums is a series of interactive sessions by the Student Alumni Committee featuring recent IIMB alumni from different domains of business such as Consulting, Marketing, Finance, General Management and Product Management, where the speakers share insights regarding careers in their chosen sector, along with valuable advice on how to prepare for entering these sectors.
