IIMB Community Contributes to Book on Grassroots Entrepreneurship

A new book, Context-Inspired Entrepreneurship: Cases from India, brings grassroots entrepreneurial stories into classrooms to make entrepreneurship education more accessible across India. Part of the Scopus-indexed Springer Nature Sustainable Development Goals series, the book captures 25 real-world cases to inspire students, especially in smaller towns and rural areas. It is the outcome of a Government of India-funded SPARC research collaboration between Indian and UK universities and is edited by Ashish Galande and Elizabeth Rose (IIM Udaipur) and Sreevas Sahasranamam (University of Glasgow).
Faculty, PhD scholars, and alumni from IIM Bangalore have made notable contributions across themes like technology-enabled inclusion, cultural entrepreneurship, and rural and social entrepreneurship. Contributors include Prof. Srivardhini K Jha, Prof. Suresh Bhagavatula, Prof. Srinivasan R, Prof. Sabarinathan G, Sachidananda Benegal, Charu Rastogi, Anuradha Sharma, Anupama Kondayya, Sirish Gouda, and Vedha Ponnappan. This initiative aims to contextualize entrepreneurship education, making it more relevant and democratic for learners across India.
IIMB Professor Brings India-Centric Insights to Kotler’s ‘Marketing Management’

The 17th edition of Marketing Management, the globally acclaimed textbook by Prof. Philip Kotler and Prof. Kevin Lane Keller, now features India-focused insights led by Prof. G. Shainesh from IIM Bangalore. This edition integrates over 50 India-specific case studies and brand stories, highlighting companies like Asian Paints, Flipkart, and Ather Energy while addressing themes such as AI, sustainability, and digital transformation.
Prof. Shainesh emphasized the need to adapt global frameworks for India’s complex market, expanding the book’s narrative to include services, startups, and technology-led businesses. The edition captures evolving consumer behavior, contemporary marketing strategies, and the growing role of personalized engagement, providing students and practitioners with relevant, practical frameworks.
The collaborative effort reaffirms the book’s commitment to contextualizing marketing theory while remaining anchored in timeless principles of service, trust, and value creation, preparing marketers to navigate diverse, high-growth markets like India.
IIMB Strengthens Commitment to Climate Action with Carbon Neutrality Targets

IIM Bangalore has announced targets to achieve carbon neutrality in Scope 2 emissions by 2030 and Scope 1 emissions by 2035, reinforcing its commitment to climate responsibility. Marking World Environment Day, IIMB released its Sustainability Report, outlining progress on water conservation, green energy, and waste management initiatives, alongside plans for solar PV capacity expansion to meet emission goals.
The Institute has also introduced a core course, ‘Responsible Business & Sustainability’, preparing students to tackle environmental and managerial challenges. As part of its green transition, IIMB launched an EV fleet, donated by the PGP 1998 batch, for sustainable campus transport. Additional circular economy initiatives include book reuse programmes and sanitary waste recycling, further reducing the campus’s environmental footprint.
Through these steps, IIMB underscores its commitment to fostering a sustainable future while engaging its community in meaningful climate action and ecological stewardship.
IIMB Explores the Potential of the Purple Economy

IIM Bangalore hosted a roundtable on the Purple Economy, emphasizing how accessibility can drive economic value and inclusion. Led by EnAble India, the discussion highlighted that products and services designed for persons with disabilities can benefit all, creating broader market opportunities while addressing a $18 trillion global potential.
Speakers, including Prof. Mukta Kulkarni, Prof. Vasanthi Srinivasan, and EnAble India’s leadership, stressed the need to move from a rights-based to a value-based approach, urging businesses to become “purple-aware.” The event showcased practical examples, from accessible transport partnerships to inclusive workplace practices, underlining the economic and social benefits of accessibility.
Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan reiterated IIMB’s commitment to fostering inclusion as part of its institutional ethos. The dialogue reinforced the message that accessibility is not just a social imperative but a strategic business opportunity, aligning inclusive practices with innovation, customer reach, and long-term growth.
