In Memoriam
In Memory of Mr. Susim Mukul Datta

Mr. Susim Mukul Datta, who chaired the Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore from 1995 to 2005, leaves behind a legacy of enduring impact. His leadership coincided with a decisive phase in the Institute’s growth, during which several pioneering initiatives took shape. These included the establishment of NSRCEL to advance entrepreneurship, the Centre for Public Policy to influence governance, and specialised programmes such as PGSEM and PGPPM that broadened the scope of management education.
Mr. Datta’s stewardship was defined by foresight, integrity, and a commitment to long-term institutional development. He combined humility with deep insight, guiding IIMB with clarity of purpose.
His influence extended well beyond academia. As Chairman of Hindustan Unilever, he oversaw significant transformations during India’s economic liberalisation, leading milestone initiatives that reshaped the corporate landscape.
The IIM Bangalore community mourns his passing and conveys its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
