IIMB Showcases Research on Smart Cities at National Forum

IIM Bangalore has been selected as the only B-school to present three thematic studies at the National Smart City Mission Assessment, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ SAAR initiative. Faculty members Prof. Shubhabrata Das, Prof. Soudeep Deb, and Prof. Dinesh Kumar led research that examines how technology can transform urban life. Prof. Das’s study highlighted the potential of mobile applications to simplify services like tax payments and grievance redressal, while also flagging the need for better citizen awareness and data security. Prof. Deb’s research showed how smart classrooms across 71 cities boosted enrolment and reduced dropout rates, with emphasis on teacher training and digital libraries. Prof. Kumar’s work revealed how integrated surveillance improved public safety and reduced crime, particularly against women. Together, these studies reflect IIMB’s role in bridging academic insights with real-world impact, advancing the vision of safer, smarter, and more inclusive cities.
