Professor Subbarayan Prasanna

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Professor Subbarayan Prasanna, who passed away in Bengaluru on 10 January 2026, at the age of 88.

Professor Prasanna joined the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore on 31 July 1978 and served the Institute with distinction until his superannuation on 31 January 1998, completing nearly two decades of dedicated service. A Professor of Urban Planning in the Centre for Human Settlements and Environmental Studies under the Public Systems Group, he also served the Institute as Dean (Administration) during his tenure.

An engineer and planner by training, Professor Prasanna played a significant role in shaping the physical and institutional fabric of IIM Bangalore. As a member of the Campus Development Committee, he worked closely with Dr. B. V. Doshi and his team in the design and development of the campus Amphitheatre—now an enduring and much-loved space at IIMB.

He will be remembered for his scholarship, energy, and deep commitment to the Institute. IIM Bangalore extends its heartfelt condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.


Remembering Tanweer Alam (PGP 2004)

It is with deep sorrow that we remember Tanweer Alam, PGP 2004.

A member of the PGP 2004 batch at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Tanweer was part of a close-knit community whose bonds have endured well beyond campus. He will be fondly remembered by his batchmates and friends.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.


Honouring the Life and Work of Professor J Philip

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the untimely passing of former Director, Professor J Philip, on 21 February 2026.

Professor Philip was a pioneering management educationist whose vision and leadership played a significant role in shaping IIM Bangalore during its formative years. Serving as Director from 1985 to 1991, he brought to the Institute a rare combination of academic rigour, institution-building experience, and strategic leadership across industry and higher education.

Over the course of a distinguished career, he held senior leadership positions at XLRI, the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), and the Oberoi Group, before founding the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME). He remained deeply committed to strengthening management education in India and reimagining the role of the modern business school in a changing economy.
