The Tata Trusts Commit a Landmark Grant to IIM Bangalore’s Undergraduate Campus

A transformative grant from the Tata Trusts marks a defining milestone in IIM Bangalore’s journey to establish a world-class undergraduate school, strengthening the Institute’s commitment to interdisciplinary education, research, and nation building.

IIM Bangalore has announced a landmark philanthropic commitment from the Tata Trusts to support the development of its new School of Undergraduate Studies in Bengaluru. The endowment represents a significant step in the Institute’s vision of extending its legacy of academic excellence to undergraduate education while creating a future-ready learning ecosystem for the next generation of leaders.

Located about 27 kilometres from IIMB’s main campus, the new undergraduate campus will welcome its inaugural cohort in August 2026. The School will initially offer two four-year residential programmes: BSc (Honours) in Economics with a minor in Data Science and BSc (Honours) in Data Science with a minor in Economics. Designed around an interdisciplinary curriculum, the programmes aim to equip students with the analytical, technological and business perspectives needed to thrive in an increasingly data-driven world.

The Tata Trusts’ support will play a pivotal role in shaping the new campus, enabling the creation of world-class academic and residential infrastructure while strengthening research capabilities and faculty development. The endowment will also help establish research clusters in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, algorithmic design, Indian Knowledge Systems, and applied business learning, reinforcing IIMB’s commitment to cutting-edge scholarship and innovation.

The partnership reflects a shared belief in the transformative power of education. For more than a century, the Tata Trusts have helped build institutions that have contributed significantly to India’s development, and this collaboration continues that tradition by investing in an institution at a defining moment in its evolution.

Welcoming the partnership, Dr. Devi Shetty, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, described the endowment as an important step towards strengthening IIM Bangalore’s global aspirations and nurturing future generations of talent. Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, highlighted that the new programmes have been designed to combine technical expertise with critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making, while the Trusts’ support will help create a world-class environment for learning, research and innovation.

As IIM Bangalore embarks on this new chapter, the collaboration with the Tata Trusts lays a strong foundation for an undergraduate institution that aspires to combine academic rigour, interdisciplinary learning and societal impact—preparing students to address the complex challenges of a rapidly changing world.
