IIMBue 2026 – Changing the Orbit
How IIMBue evolved from an alumni conclave into a platform for ideas, leadership and community
When IIMBue was launched in 2015, it was envisioned as the flagship gathering for the IIM Bangalore alumni community. Over the past decade, it has steadily evolved into a platform that brings together business leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers and alumni for conversations that extend well beyond the campus.
What began as an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and exchange ideas has grown into a forum where leadership, innovation and public policy intersect. While alumni remain at its heart, IIMBue today attracts voices from across business, government, technology, entrepreneurship and the creative industries, reflecting the increasingly interconnected world its community inhabits.
That evolution mirrors the journey of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore Alumni Association (IIMBAA). Over the past decade, the association has grown from facilitating alumni engagement to creating a vibrant, year-round community through new initiatives, stronger governance and programmes that bring alumni together in meaningful ways. IIMBue has become the most visible expression of that evolution.
Appropriately, the theme for this year’s conclave is Changing the Orbit.
A Decade of Change
The first edition of IIMBue, held in 2015, was described by The Times of India as the “mother of all summits.” It was an early indication of IIMBAA’s intent to think bigger about alumni engagement.
The years that followed saw the association steadily broaden both its role and its reach.
Anusmaran, one of IIMBAA’s longest-running alumni traditions, was reimagined for a new generation. In 2018, the restructuring of the IIMBAA Trust Deed gave alumni greater ownership of the association. The introduction of elections in 2020 strengthened participative governance, while the launch of the IIMBAA mobile app in 2022 made it easier for alumni across the world to stay connected.
Some of the most impactful initiatives addressed everyday needs rather than headline moments. The group health insurance programme, introduced in 2023, quickly became one of the association’s most appreciated offerings. Meanwhile, initiatives such as the IIMB Alumni Club at Taj West End, the Pan Alumni SportsFest, the Post-Pragya Party and the recently launched City Meets created new opportunities for alumni to meet, collaborate and reconnect throughout the year.
Taken together, these initiatives redefined alumni engagement. IIMBAA was no longer simply organising events; it was building a year-round community.
IIMBue grew alongside that community.
Looking Beyond the Campus
Every edition of IIMBue has introduced new dimensions, but the 2026 conclave reflects perhaps its most significant shift yet.
For the first time, participation has been opened to alumni from other Indian Institutes of Management, acknowledging that many of the challenges and opportunities discussed at the conclave extend beyond a single institution.
The event is also embracing new ways of bringing alumni together. Chapter watch parties will allow alumni in different cities to experience the conclave collectively, while an expanded media outreach strategy is expected to carry its conversations to a much wider audience.
These changes reflect the realities of a global alumni community. Geography is no longer a barrier to participation, and engagement is no longer confined to those who can be present in the conference hall.
The orbit, quite literally, has widened.
Conversations That Matter
The evolution of IIMBue is reflected in the conversations it now convenes.
This year’s conclave opens with an inaugural keynote address by Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, bringing a public policy perspective to the event. Another highlight will see Noel Tata in conversation with Distinguished Alumnus Awardee Sonjoy Chatterjee, promising insights into leadership, enterprise and the changing business landscape.
The programme also brings together an accomplished line-up that includes G.V. Prasad, Anand Ramamoorthy, Ashok Atluri, Siddharth Sharma, Deepak Vohra and Bhumi Pednekar, among others.
What stands out is not simply the stature of the speakers but the diversity of perspectives they represent. Business, healthcare, diplomacy, technology, entrepreneurship and the creative industries all find a place on the same stage, reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of leadership itself.
Beyond the Main Stage
Some of the most valuable moments at IIMBue happen away from the spotlight.
The Venture Showcase connects entrepreneurs with investors, mentors and fellow innovators. Authors’ Corner celebrates alumni who have recently published books, encouraging conversations that continue long after the sessions end. Networking opportunities create space for new partnerships, ideas and friendships to emerge.
This year’s addition of Euphoria brings another dimension to the conclave, recognising that communities are built not only through formal discussions but also through shared experiences and celebration.
It is this balance between intellectual engagement and personal connection that gives IIMBue its distinctive character.
More Than an Annual Event
The success of IIMBue cannot be measured only by attendance, the calibre of its speakers or the breadth of its programme.
Its real significance lies in what it represents.
Over the past decade, IIMBAA has steadily redefined what an alumni association can do. It has strengthened governance, expanded services, embraced technology and created opportunities for alumni to remain connected throughout the year. In doing so, it has built a community that extends far beyond the campus and across generations.
IIMBue is where that community comes together.
Each edition reflects not only the conversations of the moment but also the continuing evolution of the association itself. As IIMBAA has grown in confidence and ambition, so has its flagship conclave.
The theme Changing the Orbit is therefore more than the title of this year’s event. It captures a decade-long journey of growth, one that has transformed IIMBue from an alumni gathering into a platform for ideas, leadership and community.
As delegates gather in Bengaluru on August 1 and 2, they will be participating in another edition of IIMBue. They will also be witnessing the continuing evolution of an alumni association that has steadily expanded its reach, strengthened its community and redefined what alumni engagement can look like.
In many ways, that is what Changing the Orbit is really about.
