Barclays Plc Taps IIMB Alumnus Nitin Singh (PGP 2000) to Lead Asia Private Bank, Consolidating India and Singapore Businesses
Barclays Plc has hired Nitin Singh, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore from the PGP 2000 batch, to head its Asia private bank, combining businesses in Singapore and India under one chief in a strategic move to expand across the region. Based in Mumbai, Singh will assume his role on 18th September, reporting to Jean-Christophe Gerard, CEO of Barclays Private Bank, and regionally to Jaideep Khanna, the lender’s Asia-Pacific head. With over 20 years of experience in money management, Singh previously held leadership positions at Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC Holdings Plc in the UK and India. His appointment underscores the significance of India in Barclays’ growth plans, as global wealth managers aim to strengthen their presence in Asia. Additionally, the memo reveals that Sandeep Das, Barclays’ head of private clients in India, will be leaving the bank for another opportunity, and Evonne Tan’s reporting line will move to Singh, reflecting the bank’s focus on consolidating and enhancing its private banking operations in the region.
Djax Tech Founder and IIMB Alumnus (MPEFB 2009) Launches ₹50 Cr VC Fund, Ropes in IIM Alumni as Partners
Ram Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Bombay and IIM Bangalore, has launched Djax Ventures, his debut venture capital firm focusing on early-stage startups. He has brought onboard Vijaya Devi, an alumna of IIM Bangalore, and Raja Mohammed, an alumnus of IIM Kozhikode, as VC and General Partners at the company. The fund aims to raise ₹50 crore (approximately $6.8 million) in a first close and has already received commitments from various family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Djax Ventures plans to invest in early-stage startups across sectors, with a specific focus on technology, healthcare, and consumer internet.
Drawing from his entrepreneurial experience, Ram Kumar aims to guide early-stage founders through challenges and contribute to building successful businesses. With Djax Technologies, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company he founded in 2015, and now Djax Ventures, he seeks to foster innovation and growth in the Indian startup ecosystem. The firm’s target is to demonstrate its dedication to supporting promising startups and making a positive impact on the thriving Indian startup landscape.

The esteemed journal Energy Economics has accepted a research paper co-authored by Dr. Anchal Soni, a recent alumna of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD 2022) program at IIM Bangalore, and Archi Roy from IISER Pune, who is co-advised by Dr. Soudeep Deb from the Decision Sciences area at IIMB. The paper presents a wavelet-based methodology to compare the impact of the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the crude oil sector, and its interconnectedness with other energy and non-energy markets.

Having graduated with an IPS degree and a PhD, Dr. Patjoshi brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles as the Chairman & Managing Director of Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation, CEO of Council of Food Research & Development, and CEO of College of Indigenous Food Technology in Cochin. Adding to the family’s achievements, his son, Divyansh, displayed incredible talent by earning the Bronze Medal in the Sub-youth 10m Air Rifle Team Category. Notably, in the individual category (under 16, under 19, and under 21), Divyansh’s impressive performance landed him at the 4th position. The proud father-son duo has now qualified for the upcoming Pre-Nationals event, scheduled to be held in Kerala in September. This inspiring feat is met with much celebration and pride.
