IIMB Alumni Amitesh Rao Named CEO of Leo Burnett South Asia

Publicis Groupe has appointed Amitesh Rao (PGP 1995), an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Leo Burnett South Asia. He succeeds Dheeraj Sinha, who departed last year to join FCB. Rao brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Executive Director at McCann, where he oversaw North and West Operations.

In his new role, Rao will lead Leo Burnett Orchard and also supervise Publicis Health and Publicis Business, reporting directly to Anupriya Acharya, CEO of Publicis Groupe South Asia. Acharya expressed excitement about Rao’s leadership, emphasizing his blend of creativity and technological expertise.

Rao, in turn, expressed eagerness to leverage technology and creativity in shaping the agency’s future, aiming to enhance client solutions and drive growth. Rajdeepak Das, Chief Creative Officer of Publicis Groupe India and Chairperson of Leo Burnett South Asia, hailed Rao’s appointment as a significant step towards advancing the agency’s renowned creativity and expanding its success.


IIMB Alumnus Hemant Soreng Leads Expedition to Conquer Aconcagua on Republic Day

In an awe-inspiring expedition, Hemant Soreng (PGP 1997), a distinguished alumnus of IIM Bangalore, led a team to conquer Aconcagua, the towering peak outside Asia, coinciding with India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations. Enduring extreme conditions, from sub-zero temperatures to fierce winds, Hemant and his team exhibited unparalleled grit and determination, ultimately reaching the summit on January 22, 2024. The symbolic act of hoisting the Indian Flag atop Aconcagua underscored the significance of their achievement, resonating profoundly with the spirit of national pride and resilience. Hemant’s accomplishment serves as a testament to the caliber of IIMB alumni, epitomizing their unwavering commitment to excellence and adventure on the global stage. This remarkable feat not only showcases individual determination but also highlights the collective strength and resilience of the Indian spirit, fostering a sense of pride and inspiration among all who celebrate this monumental achievement.


IIMBAA Continental Europe Chapter Inauguration

We are pleased to share that the virtual inauguration ceremony of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore Alumni Association (IIMBAA) Continental Europe Chapter was successfully held on January 20, 2024.

The event featured several key sessions, including an inauguration and update on the IIMB Golden Jubilee by Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIMB. Following this, Prof. Sourav Mukherji, Dean Alumni Relations, and Mr. Harish Mittal, President of IIMBAA, discussed “IIMBAA 2.0: New Ways of Working,” offering insights into innovative approaches being adopted.

The interim office bearers also shared their plans and activities for the region, providing attendees with an overview of the exciting initiatives ahead. The event also included informal discussions and a Q&A session, allowing for active participation, connection with fellow alumni, and engagement with the IIMB community.
