IIM Bangalore Commemorates 76th Republic Day

IIM Bangalore celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm, bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their families for a memorable event. On January 26, 2025, Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIMB, unfurled the national flag and delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of constitutional values, economic growth, and education’s role in shaping India’s future. He stressed the need for innovation, increased workforce participation for women, and sustainable development to drive the nation forward.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural lineup. The music club Dhwani performed patriotic melodies, followed by a mesmerizing flute recital. The drama club Goonj staged a thought-provoking street play supporting Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. A heartfelt performance by IIMB staff and an electrifying dance by Taal, the dance club, added to the festivities.

Moderated by Col. (Retd.) S.D. Aravendan, the event reflected IIMB’s commitment to nation-building and progress.

IMR Doctoral Conference 2025 Begins with Keynote on India’s Banking Sector

The IMR Doctoral Conference 2025 (IMRDC), hosted by IIM Bangalore’s IIMB Management Review (IMR) and the Doctoral Programme Office, commenced on January 17, 2025, with an insightful keynote by Prof. Viral V. Acharya, C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at NYU Stern School of Business. Speaking on “Banking Sector in India: The Past, Present, and Future,” he emphasized the need for market-friendly reforms over incumbent-friendly ones.

Prof. Acharya analyzed India’s banking evolution, challenges in digital finance, and the political economy’s role in banking policies. He highlighted key trends such as NPA management, financial inclusion, and the post-COVID digital finance boom, urging research-driven policymaking.

The two-day conference features a hybrid format, with a panel discussion on academic job markets and 11 selected doctoral paper presentations. IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan commended IMRDC’s role in advancing doctoral research. The event will conclude on January 18, 2025, with an awards ceremony and valedictory session.
