IIMB marks Indiaโ€™s 80th Independence Day with a celebration of service and community

IIM Bangalore celebrated Indiaโ€™s 80th Independence Day with students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families coming together for a morning of patriotism and community spirit.

The celebrations began with a march past by campus security personnel, followed by the unfurling of the national flag by Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, IIMB. In his address, Prof. Dinesh Kumar paid tribute to Indiaโ€™s freedom fighters and urged members of the IIMB community to contribute to the countryโ€™s progress.

The occasion also recognised the people who work behind the scenes to keep the campus running. Teams from the Estates Office, Hostels, Canteen and Management Development Centre were honoured for their contributions. The Horticulture team was also recognised for winning second prize for its ornamental campus garden.

Cultural performances by student clubs Dhwani and Taal, along with patriotic songs, brought the celebrations to a close. The presence of the PGP 1991 batch, marking its 35th reunion, added a special alumni connection to the occasion.

IIMB marks Ambedkarโ€™s legacy with dialogue, debate and cultural expression

On 13 August, L-Square at IIM Bangalore was abuzz with an evening of reflection, debate and cultural expression as the institute celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The programme was coordinated by DEI Club at IIMB and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

The evening also marked the relaunch and expansion of the DEI Club of IIMB, Vividh, from the former QUEst. The club is committed to providing a space where diverse identities, experiences and perspectives can find a voice and inclusion is a collective responsibility.

The Public Policy Club debated whether Indiaโ€™s constitutional and legal framework can deliver Ambedkarโ€™s vision of equality, liberty and fraternity. The students discussed the role of the Constitution, legal remedies and social change. The discussion moved towards local governance and responsible use of AI.

The programme ended with The Human Audit presented by Goonj, the Dramatics Club. It was a satire on social prejudice, unconscious bias, gender and everyday judgements about identity and background.
