IIMB Welcomes Record-Breaking New Cohort for PGP & PGPBA
IIM Bangalore recently inaugurated its newest cohort for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and the Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics (PGPBA). The incoming batch comprises 535 students for the PGP and 72 for the PGPBA, with a notable 40% of the PGP cohort being female—an all-time high.
The orientation program, running from 11 to 24 June, marks the beginning of an exciting two-year journey for these students. Prof. Kunal Dasgupta, Chairperson of Admissions & Financial Aid, highlighted the rigorous admissions process and provided insights into the diverse background of the new students. The cohort features a mix of engineering, commerce, arts, and science backgrounds, with average work experiences of 27 months for PGP and 20 months for PGPBA students.
The inauguration also featured the Distinguished Alumni Awards (DAA) ceremony, celebrating notable alumni such as Hemanth K Bhargava, T Koshy, Prabha Narasimhan, and Praveen Sood, who shared their success stories and offered advice to the new students.
PC Musthafa, the Chief Guest and IIMB alumnus, delivered an inspiring keynote address. He emphasized the importance of leveraging IIMB’s network and experiences to uncover business opportunities and build meaningful ventures.
The event also included messages from IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan and other faculty members, focusing on the value of both academic and soft skills. The ceremony concluded with the announcement of awards, scholarships, and a cultural program, setting a positive tone for the students’ journey ahead.
IIMB Welcomes Its Largest PhD Cohort with 23 New Students
IIM Bangalore has inaugurated its largest-ever PhD cohort, welcoming 23 students, including 12 women, into its prestigious doctoral program. This diverse group, hailing from various regions across India such as Bihar, Bengal, Varanasi, and Ujjain, is pursuing research in fields ranging from Information Systems to Finance, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.
The new students, with backgrounds spanning IIMB’s NSR Pre-doc and Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship programs, as well as experience in the startup and defense sectors, were introduced to the program by PhD Chairperson Prof. Ananth Krishnamurthy and other key faculty members. The orientation included an overview of the program, its resources, and the campus facilities.
IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan encouraged the students to benchmark themselves globally and to build a robust research community. He emphasized that pursuing a PhD in India offers significant opportunities and shared examples of successful alumni. Prof. Krishnan urged the students to embrace diverse research methods and contribute rigorously to their fields.
Deans Prof. Mukta Kulkarni and Prof. Sourav Mukherji also addressed the cohort, highlighting the importance of intellectual partnerships and the value of IIMB’s rigorous research environment. The inauguration included a symbolic gesture where students watered a tree planted by previous PhD alumni, signifying the continuity and growth of IIMB’s research legacy.
IIMB Unveils Sustainability Dashboard for World Environment Day
On World Environment Day, IIM Bangalore launched its new Sustainability Dashboard, an initiative spearheaded by IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan and Prof. Haritha Saranga, Chairperson of the Sustainability Task Force, alongside faculty members Prof. Rajendra K Bandi, Prof. M Jayadev, Prof. Mukta Kulkarni, and Prof. G Shainesh.
The Sustainability Dashboard provides comprehensive tracking of campus energy sources, consumption, CO2 emissions and offsets, as well as waste management, including recycling and repurposing. It also monitors water usage trends and campus biodiversity.
In her address, Prof. Haritha Saranga highlighted the urgency of addressing the climate crisis, citing recent extreme weather events in Bangalore as evidence of climate change. She encouraged the IIMB community to actively participate in sustainability efforts, emphasizing that IIMB has the potential to set an example for other institutions.
Prof. Saranga outlined existing green initiatives, such as rainwater harvesting, rooftop solar energy, and waste management programs. She also previewed upcoming projects, including a Book ReUse program and a Cloth Collection and Recycling drive.
Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan commended the IIMB community for its commitment to sustainability and reflected on the institute’s legacy. He emphasized the importance of continuing to pursue greener energy solutions and the broader impact of these efforts as students carry these values into their future organizations.
