Gravitas for PGPEM Alumni

IIMB launched “Gravitas”, an event on career advice, planning, leadership and mentoring for PGPEM alums who graduated in the last four years (2016 to 2109), on Saturday 22 June 2019.

We had two mentor leads for each of the cohorts who shared their journey, insights and experiences on career choices, role of mentor ship, planning for leadership roles, etc. The mentor leads were 

• Sanjaya Kumar Gupta, PGP 1992, Director Spectrum Consultants (HR & Recruitments)
• Kalpana Rangamani, PGP 1996, Business Head Titan Fragrance
• Sridhar Parthasarathy, PGSEM 2006, Director Last Mile Consultancy
• Arvind Sainath, PGPEM 2008, Head, Marketing Analytics Diageo India

 The talk focused on Organisations are complex structures, functioning across intricate networks of peoples, processes, plans, principles and passions. To be successful, leaders have to deftly navigate these various networks, paying attention to the boundaries of organizations and roles that people play. Understanding of these roles and structures is pertinent when you are taking charge of your own career. They discussed on what are the top factors across the world that are affecting protean careers within the boundaries of an organisational framework.

It was wonderful to hear all of them and we received a very positive feedback. The keynote address on “Navigating Protean Careers Within Organisational Boundaries”, talk by Prof. Pearl Malhotra, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management Area set the context and there were many takeaways from that session. We also had Prof. Abhoy Ohja -Dean Programmes to address the session. The conversations with the mentors and the insights shared were practical and the participants would apply some of the ideas to their own circumstances.
