Honorable President of India Inaugurates IIMB’s Golden Jubilee Foundation Week Celebrations

Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka releases book and film on IIM Bangalore

IIM Bangalore is dedicated to fostering not only managers but also leaders and changemakers, recognizing the pivotal role of education in all aspects of life. The institute’s emblem, bearing the phrase ‘Tejasvi Navadhitamastu,’ meaning ‘let our study be enlightening,’ perfectly embodies IIMB’s ethos. It serves as a gateway to self-improvement, enlightenment, and the exploration of one’s talents. During the inauguration of IIM Bangalore’s Golden Jubilee Foundation Week on October 26, 2023, the esteemed President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, commended the institution for its noble vision and mission, positioning it as a robust catalyst for change and rectitude.

The event took place at IIMB’s Bannerghatta Road campus and saw the presence of significant figures, including Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIM Bangalore, Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, the Director of IIM Bangalore, the four Deans, as well as former and current faculty, students, and staff. IIM Bangalore is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an elaborate Foundation Week, featuring a variety of events spanning a week.

The President of India acknowledged IIMB’s crucial role in addressing national challenges, promoting economic growth and employment, and its leadership in innovation and entrepreneurship through NSRCEL. She also highlighted the institute’s global recognition in Positive Impact Ratings and its contributions to celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ the 75th year of India’s independence. She commended the Data Centre and Analytics Lab (DCAL) for its impact on business and the economy and lauded IIMB’s digital learning initiatives, which bridge the digital divide by offering MOOCs to students who cannot access the mainstream knowledge economy.

The President also recognized IIMB’s specialized Centers of Excellence, particularly the Centre for Public Policy, for its work in public policy research and skill development through the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship program.

Additionally, she acknowledged the increasing enrollment of women in IIMB’s programs, emphasizing the significance of programs designed to help women advance into leadership roles. She praised NSRCEL’s impact on thousands of women entrepreneurs.

The President offered valuable advice to IIMB’s student community, urging them to recognize their responsibility as recipients of an education from an institution of national importance. She stressed the importance of addressing inequality in access to opportunities, adopting humility, and upholding strong ethical values. She emphasized that as the future wealth creators of the world, their aims should be broad, and they should strive for excellence while leaving a world of harmony and prosperity for future generations.

The President of India also inaugurated ‘Swarna Twaran,’ a 50-hour Golden Jubilee relay walkathon, involving students, faculty, staff, and alumni, to promote healthy and sustainable living while showcasing human endurance. The event is set to conclude on October 28, 2023, and alumni chapters across the country and worldwide have been encouraged to organize similar events during this 50-hour window.

The Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, congratulated IIMB on its Golden Jubilee and recognized the institute’s contributions to various fields. He praised IIMB’s impact on entrepreneurship, healthcare management, and business analytics through digital initiatives.

The Governor of Karnataka also released a book titled ‘The Making of a Campus: IIM Bangalore,’ which delves into the architectural and human history of IIMB’s campus, including insights from faculty and staff, and the design and planning efforts of architects.

He also unveiled a film titled ‘IIMB: The Journey Towards Excellence,’ which documents the institute’s 50-year journey, showcasing the challenges, accomplishments, and future directions through the voices of stakeholders.

Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIM Bangalore, expressed gratitude for the support from the Government of India and Karnataka in shaping leaders and pioneers and reaffirmed IIMB’s commitment to excellence.

Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, highlighted the institute’s accomplishments, adaptability to changing environments, and commitment to quality teaching. He outlined IIMB’s plans for the future, including a focus on healthcare, the MSME sector, and undergraduate education in key disciplines.

IIM Bangalore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations feature a range of activities, including lectures, music presentations, plays, awards, and cultural programs, showcasing the institute’s rich history and bright future.
