Prime Minister Narendra Modi Announces IIM Bangalore Campus in Indonesia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of an IIM Bangalore campus in Indonesia during his official visit to Jakarta on 7 July 2026, marking a significant milestone in India–Indonesia cooperation and IIMB’s global engagement. The proposed campus, to be located at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), is expected to serve learners from Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region, strengthening academic collaboration, executive education and leadership development.
The initiative builds on an MoU signed between IIM Bangalore and the Singhasari SEZ, with Phase I offering short-duration Executive Education Programmes, followed by degree-granting programmes in Phase II. Designed to prepare future leaders, the campus will focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainability, healthcare and global supply chains while fostering research collaborations, faculty exchanges and industry partnerships across the region.
Prof. Shubhabrata Das Appointed to National Statistical Commission
Prof. Shubhabrata Das, Chairperson, Admissions & Financial Aid and faculty member in the Decision Sciences area at IIM Bangalore, has been appointed as a Part-Time Member of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The Commission, which functions under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, serves as the country’s apex advisory body on matters relating to official statistics.
A member of the IIM Bangalore faculty since 1999, Prof. Das has made significant contributions to teaching, research and academic leadership. His work spans statistics, actuarial mathematics, operations research and business analytics, with applications across diverse domains including insurance, logistics, healthcare and public policy. His appointment is a recognition of his long-standing expertise and contributions to the field.
Prof. Sankarshan Basu Co-edits Routledge Handbook on Indian Banking and Finance
Prof. Sankarshan Basu of the Finance & Accounting area has co-edited The Routledge Handbook of Indian Banking and Finance, a comprehensive volume that explores the evolution and future of India’s banking and financial ecosystem. Co-edited with Prof. Partha Ray and Prof. Ashok Banerjee, the handbook brings together contributions from leading academics and practitioners to examine the institutions, regulations, markets and innovations shaping the country’s BFSI sector.
Prof. Basu has also co-authored a chapter on India’s derivatives markets with IIM Bangalore PhD alumnus Rajeev Kumar Agarwal. Designed for students, researchers, policymakers and finance professionals, the handbook offers valuable insights into one of the world’s fastest-evolving financial systems.
IIM Bangalore Retains Top ‘Pioneering School’ Recognition in Positive Impact Rating 2026
IIM Bangalore has once again been recognised among the world’s leading business schools for its societal impact, securing an impressive 9.7 in the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2026—well above the global average of 8.0. The Institute has also been named a Level 5 ‘Pioneering School’ for the fifth consecutive year, the highest distinction in the global assessment.
Based entirely on student feedback, the PIR evaluates business schools on how effectively they prepare responsible leaders and contribute to society. This year’s recognition reflects IIMB’s continued focus on responsible management education, impactful research, and meaningful engagement with communities.
Doctoral Scholar Indu Poornima Awarded Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship
Indu Poornima, a doctoral scholar in the Public Policy area at IIM Bangalore, has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Fellowship 2026–27. The fellowship will support her dissertation research at the Saxena Center for Contemporary South Asia, Brown University.
Her research examines how large infrastructure projects reshape the lives and livelihoods of communities dependent on natural resources. Focusing on the development of the Vizhinjam transshipment port in Kerala, her work explores how local fishing communities navigate social and economic change. The fellowship recognises the quality and significance of her research and offers an opportunity to further strengthen its global academic impact.
IIMB Research Wins Best Paper Award at RSFE 2026
A research paper co-authored by M. Joel Christopher, a doctoral scholar in the Finance & Accounting area at IIM Bangalore, has won the Best Research Paper Award (Second Prize) in the ESG, CSR, Banks and Other Finance category at the Research Symposium on Finance and Economics (RSFE) 2026.
Titled Political Alignment and the Allocation of Credit: Evidence from Firm-Bank Lending in India, the paper examines how political alignment influences lending decisions in the banking sector. The study was co-authored by Prof. Abhinav Anand, Prof. Sankarshan Basu and Prof. Nitin Vishen, highlighting IIM Bangalore’s continued contribution to research that addresses important questions at the intersection of finance and public policy.
