Award-Winning Research Examines How Emerging Market Firms Expand Globally

Research by Prof. Sandeep Yadav, IIMB Young Faculty Research Chair and faculty member in Strategy, has received the Best Paper Award in the Strategy & Entrepreneurship track at the 10th PAN IIM World Management Conference. The paper, titled “Historical Imprinting, Institutional Context and Emerging Market Firms’ Springboard Internationalization”, was recognised for its academic rigour, originality, and potential impact.

The award was presented at the conference hosted by IIM Ranchi, which brought together management scholars from across institutions to showcase research with strong societal and policy relevance. Prof. Yadav’s work explores how firms from emerging markets internationalise, with particular attention to the influence of historical context, institutional environments, and the timing of global expansion.

At IIM Bangalore, his broader research agenda focuses on international strategy, corporate social responsibility in multinational firms, and the dynamics of global growth. His work has appeared in leading academic journals and has been presented at major international forums, including the Academy of International Business and the Academy of Management.


Research on Green Bond Announcements Earns Best Paper Runner-Up Recognition

A research paper co-authored by Prof. Varun Jindal, faculty in the Finance & Accounting area at IIM Bangalore, has received the Best Paper Award Runner-up in the Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Governance track at the India Responsible Capital Conference, held alongside the India Management Research Conference (IMRC) 2025 at IIM Ahmedabad.

Titled “Green Game in Town: Intra-Industry Spillover Effects of Corporate Green Bond Announcements in the US”, the study examines how announcements of corporate green bonds influence firms within the same industry. The findings contribute to the growing empirical literature on sustainable finance by highlighting how such announcements can shape investor perceptions and industry-wide responses.

The paper is co-authored by Sourav Prasad, PhD student at IIM Bodh Gaya, and Prof. Arun Upadhyay of Florida International University. The collaboration emerged during Sourav Prasad’s academic visit to IIM Bangalore as part of a formal institutional partnership. The recognition underscores the conference’s focus on advancing research at the intersection of sustainability, governance, and responsible capital markets.


Prof. Srivardhini K. Jha Honoured for Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education

Prof. Srivardhini K. Jha, Professor of Entrepreneurship at IIM Bangalore and Chairperson of NSRCEL, has been conferred the Bharat Asmita Acharya Shreshtha – Best Teacher in Management Award 2026, recognising her sustained contributions to management education, innovation, and institution-building. The award is presented by MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions as part of the Bharat Asmita National Awards.

The citation acknowledges Prof. Jha’s exceptional role in advancing entrepreneurship education through teaching, research, and practice, as well as her leadership at NSRCEL. Under her stewardship, NSRCEL has grown into one of India’s most influential startup ecosystems, supporting early-stage ventures, women-led enterprises, and social impact initiatives at scale.

Instituted in 2005, the Bharat Asmita National Awards honour individuals whose work has made a lasting contribution to nation-building across education and public life. Selected through a rigorous process led by a distinguished committee, the award places Prof. Jha among a notable group of academic and institutional leaders recognised for shaping India’s innovation and entrepreneurial landscape.


Strategy Research on Technology Evolution Earns Best Paper Runner-Up Recognition

A research paper co-authored by IIM Bangalore doctoral student Anubha Shokhand, along with Prof. Sai Yayavaram and Prof. Nilam Kaushik from the Strategy area, has received the Runner-up for the SAGE Best Paper Award at the India Strategy Conference (ISC), hosted by the Indian School of Business. Titled “Tracing the Arc of Innovation: Patterns and Drivers of Technology Evolution”, the paper was presented under the track Strategic Innovation for Competitive Advantage in a Fragmented World and forms part of Anubha Shokhand’s doctoral research.

The study examines how technologies evolve over time, identifying key patterns and drivers that shape innovation trajectories. Its recognition highlights the contribution of rigorous doctoral research to advancing strategic thinking on innovation and competitive advantage.

In a related achievement, Rangan Das, a second-year doctoral student supervised by Prof. Nilam Kaushik, was awarded the Academy of Management STR Global Scholarship, supporting participation in the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. Together, these recognitions underscore the strength of IIM Bangalore’s research in strategy and innovation.
