IIMB Holds Top Position in Positive Impact Rating 2023; Achieves Remarkable Victory in Overall Score.
IIM Bangalore has maintained its top position in the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2023, holding onto the Level 5 category as it did last year. Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIMB, expressed his delight and encouragement, highlighting the consistent performance of the institute in the PIR rankings. He also praised Indian schools for achieving top positions globally in the PIR.
The PIR is a rating conducted by students and for students, with participation from over 12,000 students across 71 business schools spanning five continents and 25 countries. This year saw a substantial 58% increase in participation compared to the previous year. The overall PIR score rose from 7.3 in 2021 to 7.6 in 2022 and further to 7.7 in 2023, evaluated on a scale from 1 to 10.
The PIR assesses students’ perceptions of their business schools’ positive impact on the world, extending beyond their contributions to business and the economy to encompass their role in making a positive impact on society. The rating was established in collaboration with global NGOs – WWF, Oxfam, and UN Global Compact – by business school experts, and it is supported by international student associations oikos, AIESEC, and Net Impact, along with VIVA Idea (Costa Rica) and The Institute for Business Sustainability Foundation & Fehr Advice (both from Switzerland).
IIM Bangalore Retains High Ranking in NIRF 2023 with Improved Graduation Outcomes and Outreach & Inclusivity Scores
IIM Bangalore maintains its second position in NIRF 2023 ‘Management’ category with improved scores in ‘Graduation Outcomes’ and ‘Outreach & Inclusivity’. The institute excels in ‘Placements and Higher Studies’, reflecting its strong industry connections and career development programs. It also scores high in ‘Economically and Socially Challenged Students’, emphasizing its commitment to accessible management education. IIMB’s top scores in ‘Faculty-student ratio’, ‘University Examinations Metric’, and ‘Facilities for Physically Challenged Students’ contribute to its reputation as a preferred institution for management education in India.
Paper Co-Authored by Dr. Rahul Dé Wins Best Paper, Claudio Ciborra Runner-Up at ECIS 2023
Dr. Rahul Dé, Dean of Programmes and faculty in the Information Systems area at IIM Bangalore, achieved recognition for co-authoring a paper that secured the Best Paper Claudio Ciborra runner-up award at ECIS 2023, held in Norway. His expertise lies in Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence, with research interests spanning various areas such as ICT for development, open source, e-Government systems, digital payments, internet governance, telemedicine, and AI ethics. With an impressive publication record, international experience, and multiple editorial board roles, Dr. Dé’s contributions have been widely acknowledged, including being recognized as one of India’s top ten AI researchers by Analytics India Magazine in 2020.
Dr. Nilam Kaushik Recognized in ‘Poets and Quants Best 40 Under 40 MBA Professors 2023’ Worldwide
Prof. Nilam Kaushik from the Strategy area at IIM Bangalore has achieved recognition as one of the ‘Poets and Quants Best 40 under 40 MBA Professors 2023’ worldwide, making her the first faculty member from an Indian business/management school to be featured on this esteemed list. In its 11th edition, the award aims to acknowledge the accomplishments of promising young professors teaching in MBA programs globally, with a total of 440 exceptional MBA faculty recognized to date. The list includes faculty from 36 different business schools, with 16 outstanding women faculty members among them. Prof. Kaushik’s research interests encompass innovation and entrepreneurship, utilizing interdisciplinary methods like text-mining, information retrieval, and econometrics. Her contributions to the field have brought great honor to IIM Bangalore, where she enjoys teaching the best students from across India.
Proposal on ‘Reducing Energy Use in Hotel Rooms through Altered Choice Architecture,’ Co-Authored by Dr. Kanchan Mukherjee and IIMB Doctoral Programme Alum Vivek, Wins LIFE Global Call for Ideas and Papers
The proposal titled ‘Reduce Use of Energy in Hotel Rooms through Altered Choice Architecture,’ co-authored by Dr. Kanchan Mukherjee, Chairperson and faculty of Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management at IIM Bangalore, and Vivek, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore’s Doctoral program, has emerged as a winning global idea in the ‘Global Call for Ideas and Papers’ by the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) global movement. Launched during the Glasgow Climate Change Conference – Conference of the Parties (COP26) in 2021, the LiFE movement aims to foster sustainability initiatives with global scalability for significant impact. NITI Aayog initiated the ‘LiFE Global Call for Ideas and Papers,’ receiving over 2,500 proposals from 67 countries. In a ceremony held in New Delhi on 5th June 2023, Vivek received the certificate for this esteemed recognition, with the Prime Minister of India and other senior dignitaries in attendance.
Dr. Gopal Das Appointed as Associate Editor for Business & Society Journal
Dr. Gopal Das, a faculty member in the Marketing area at IIM Bangalore, has been appointed as an Associate Editor for Business & Society, a prestigious peer-reviewed academic journal that encompasses the field of business. Prof. Das will serve in an independent capacity for the journal. His research interests span various aspects of consumer behavior, including consumer emotion, motivation, scarcity, information processing, gift-giving, consumer receptivity to artificial intelligence, and retailing. Additionally, he teaches courses on marketing management, marketing research, consumer behavior, and experimental design. His scholarly papers have been published in esteemed international journals like the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Retailing, European Journal of Marketing, Psychology and Marketing, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Services Marketing.
Doctoral Student Ronit Neogy’s Paper Published in International Game Theory Review
Paper by Ronit Neogy, a second-year student in IIM Bangalore’s Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme, titled ‘On Some Special Matrix Classes Useful in Optimization and Game Theory,’ has been published in the International Game Theory Review (ABDC-B). The paper delves into renowned matrix classes like copositive and semimonotone matrices, presenting new results relevant to optimization theory. Prof. Ananth Krishnamurthy, Chairperson of the Doctor of Philosophy programme, congratulated Ronit on his achievement and encouraged him to pursue higher research productivity in his field. Prof. Soudeep Deb of the Decision Sciences area at IIMB praised the paper for being solely authored, showcasing Ronit’s exceptional capabilities in conducting independent research. The paper’s abstract highlights its exploration of positivity, quadratic optimization, and game theoretic characterizations within the special class of matrices discussed.
PGP Team Advances to International Semi-Final Round of Hult Prize Foundation 2023
IIM Bangalore’s PGP Team “Eternal Saga,” comprising Ankit Pandey, Stuti Jain, Divya Prakash Srivastava, Abhishek Chhattani, and Ami Jagani, students of the two-year full-time MBA program (PGP 2022-24), has qualified for the International Semi-final round of the Hult Prize Foundation 2023 event. They excelled in the International Quarterfinals and will compete in the semi-finals in Mumbai on 10th June, 2023.
The Hult Prize Foundation challenges young individuals to address global issues through social entrepreneurship. Participants create for-profit social ventures that positively impact people and the planet, aligning with the United Nations SDGs. The winning team in this year’s “Redesigning Fashion” theme will receive $1 million USD in funding to bring their idea to life. The semi-final round will host around 700 start-ups selected from over 100,000 students and entrepreneurs representing more than 120 countries.
