Prof. Arpit Shah awarded funding from Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) to extend dissertation research on urban green spaces

Prof. Shah’s proposal was one of the two successful ‘climate justice’ proposals from 75 proposals that the program attracted

Prof. Arpit Shah, faculty from the Public Policy area and IIMB Young Faculty Research Chair, has been awarded funding from Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP), to extend his dissertation research on urban green spaces. His was one of the two successful ‘climate justice’ proposals from 75 proposals that the program attracted. 

The priority themes for the proposals were: urban violence and policing; climate justice, and polarization and democracy. The ‘climate justice’ research area focuses on policy responses to climate change and addressing inequalities across people and communities who bear the brunt of its negative impact. Prof. Shah’s work will focus on examining environmental injustice in urban India. 

The funding will be used to support research-related expenses, including data purchase and storage, and spending on research assistance. 


IIMB’S PGP STUDENTS WIN ASIAN PAINTS CANVAS 2021 CONTEST

Chirag Mehta, Divya Ahuja and Prachi Arora bested 972 teams to bag the honour

A team of IIMB students, called ‘Slice of Art’ and comprising Chirag Mehta, Divya Ahuja and Prachi Arora, all students of PGP 2020-22 at IIM Bangalore, has won the Asian Paints Canvas 2021 contest, held on 8th November.

The IIMB team bested 972 teams from 12 eligible campuses from across the country. The IIMB Director, Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, expressed his delight at the team’s victory.

Asian Paints Canvas 2021 was the 10th edition of the case competition held by the company every year. Participants are required to work on a live problem statement that the company is facing. 

 This year, the ask was to analyse the consumer journey and insights for a new category development within home decor in India. The teams were asked to analyse their existing propositions as well as recommend new product lines that Asian Paints could venture into. But more importantly, they were also asked to develop an in-depth marketing strategy as well as financials to support profitability and bottom line growth for the company.

“For the past month and a half, we have been working on this case. We had our first victory at the campus level on 29th September and then went on to win the finals on 8th November 2021,” says Divya.

 The finals were judged by a panel comprising Amit Syngle, MD & CEO, Aashish Kshetry, VP, HR and Systems, Sumit Midha, Associate Vice President, Retail Sales and Marketing, and Lakshmi Narayanan B – General Manager, Marketing.


TEAM KAIZEN FROM IIM BANGALORE WINS ‘MIMAMSA: THE HR STRATEGY EVENT’ HELD DURING AVENUES ’21 – THE ANNUAL BUSINESS FESTIVAL OF IIT BOMBAY

The team comprised Umesh D (2020-22 batch) and Aalo Mukherjee (2021-23 batch), both students of IIMB’s two-year weekend MBA – Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management

A team from IIM Bangalore’s two-year weekend MBA – Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), has won ‘Mimamsa: The HR Strategy Event’ as part of Avenues ’21 – The Annual Business Festival of Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), IIT Bombay.

The PGPEM team, by the name ‘Team Kaizen’, comprised Umesh D (PGPEM 2020-22) and Aalo Mukherjee (PGPEM 2021-23). 

Round 1 of the contest had around 373 participants/teams, out of which 71 teams qualified for Round 2. The top eight teams qualified for the finals and IIMB’s PGPEM team was declared the winner.

Mimamsa aims at testing the HRM skills of students from various B-schools by providing them with various business scenarios, ranging from planning and recruiting to change management, conflict resolution, and HR Analytics. At the core of the event is the element of surprise as happens in real-life businesses.


IIMB’S EPGP TEAM WINS ANNUAL CASE COMPETITION HOSTED BY IIM AHMEDABAD

The case competition, a part of Level Up, IIMA’s annual PGPX event, was empowered by Janani Life, a health-tech start-up; IIMB team bags first runner-up position in the event

A team from IIM Bangalore’s one-year fulltime MBA – Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), 2021-22 batch, has won a national case competition, organized by IIM Ahmedabad as part of Level Up, the annual PGPX event. The team was adjudged the first runner-up in the event, which was empowered by Janani Life, a health-tech start-up.  

The EPGP team comprised Himanshu Thakur, an IT expert from the Oil & Gas industry; Yash Pandey, an operations expert from upstream Oil & Gas; Mansi Parmar, a finance expert from the Banking industry and Dr. Divya Tandra, an oncologist.

The contest had more than 200 teams participating from reputed B-schools and universities across the country. It was a two-round event involving a brief presentation on the actual business case of Janani Life, followed by a detailed presentation to the executives of Janani Life and senior faculty of IIMA focussing on the operational strategy. The solution presented by the team discussed the operational challenges to enter new geographies and suggested technology solutions to scale up the Janani Life venture.


IIM BANGALORE’S PGP TEAM AMONG WINNERS OF THE 2021 GLOBAL BLOOMBERG TRADING CHALLENGE

Vivek Kumar, Dhiraj Kumar, Nabajit Paul and Mayank Jha win second best spot in Asia and fourth best in the world

A team from IIM Bangalore’s Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) has been adjudged one of the winners in the 2021 Global Bloomberg Trading Challenge. The IIMB team gained the second best spot in Asia and fourth best in the world in the contest. 

The faculty advisor for the team was Prof. M S Narasimhan of the Finance & Accounting area of IIMB. The team captain was Vivek Kumar, and the other team members included Dhiraj Kumar, Nabajit Paul and Mayank Jha.

The 2021 Global Trading Challenge by Bloomberg for Education saw around 3,000 people participating, featuring 488 teams and 14,445 trades. The data was segregated into schools and countries, and a leaderboard was constructed for each region. During the contest, all the participants gained immense experience and insight into the challenges and opportunities of successful investing.

The Bloomberg Trading Challenge, according to its website, is the only university investment competition to take place entirely within the Bloomberg Terminal. Teams of three to five students, led by a faculty advisor, will use the Terminal to define market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy, and execute trades over a closed network. The winning team will have the highest Relative P&L, relative to the Bloomberg World Large, Mid & Small Cap Price Return Index (WLS Index).

Aishvarya, doctoral student of IIM Bangalore from the Decision Sciences area, has been selected for the prestigious Intel India Research Fellowship Program 2021. Her research proposal is about using AI techniques to identify factors influencing user’s choice of product.


PG IN BUSINESS ANALYTICS TEAM FROM IIMB BAGS TOP SPOT IN ASIAN PAINTS CHAIN REACTION 2021

A team from IIM Bangalore – ‘Team Bwiz’ – comprising Arjun Mehra, Raja Ram Pandey and Butke Madhur Mangesh, all students of the Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics (PGP-BA), has won the National Finals of the Asian Paints Chain Reaction 2021. A national-level supply chain case competition, this year’s event featured more than 720 teams.
