IIMB Orators Club Event – Youth Leadership Program June 2024

Youth Leadership Program June 2024: Empowering Future Leaders

The Youth Leadership Program (YLP) at IIM Bangalore, organized by the IIMB Orators Club in collaboration with the IIMB Alumni Association and the IIMB Alumni Relations Office, recently concluded its second successful edition. The program, tailored for students aged 14-18, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 candidates who embarked on an enriching eight-week journey to enhance their communication and leadership skills.

Over the course of eight sessions, each lasting two hours, participants learned vital skills such as preparing and delivering speeches, giving impromptu talks, controlling their voice and gestures, and providing constructive feedback to peers. The hands-on, mentor-guided workshops were designed to boost self-confidence and equip participants with lifelong leadership and communication tools.

The program culminated in a graduation ceremony held at the IIMB campus, attended by club members, parents, and the Head of Alumni Relations, Utanka Sarma, who presented certificates to the participants. Ashok Kumar, President of IIMB Orators Club, delivered the presidential address, offering invaluable tips on public speaking.

Themed “End is not the end. In fact, it is a new beginning,” the graduation ceremony was a celebration of growth, transformation, and potential. The event featured a keynote speech by Tony V Francis, Director of PLAY LLP, titled “Understanding Generational Phenomenon for Leading Change.” Graduates showcased their newly honed skills through prepared and impromptu speeches, while their peers provided constructive feedback through fun-filled evaluations.

Participants expressed immense satisfaction with the program, sharing positive feedback about the friendships they formed and the vital life lessons they took away—skills that go beyond communication and leadership. The experience was a transformative one, instilling confidence, self-awareness, and an understanding of how to apply these skills in the real world.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, YLP Lead Akshaya Kamath said, “It is a day of immense pride and deep fulfillment. The end is, in every sense, a new beginning.” Kamath, along with the mentors of the IIMB Orators Club, including Madhavaraju Munuswamy, Senthil Kumar Thavamani, Dinesh Bez, Kavita Telkar, and others, played a key role in guiding the participants through the program.

The IIMB Alumni Relations office also played a crucial role in making the program a success, supporting this initiative that continues to empower young minds. As the participants move forward, they carry with them not just certificates, but the confidence to lead, communicate, and inspire.

The Youth Leadership Program at IIMB has once again proven to be a platform that transforms young individuals into confident orators and leaders, ready to face the world and make a positive impact.
