Welcome to the Family: PGP Orientation 2018

It’s that time of the year again. As the 45th batch of IIMB PGP was officially welcomed into the campus, the air was filled with enthusiasm and joy. Youngsters filled with their dreams and aspirations took their seats while their parents watched them, proud and their heads held high.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with lightening of lamp followed by an address by the PGP and Admissions chairpersons. Mr Saugata Gupta, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore (PGP Batch of 1991) was the chief guest for the ceremony. He started his address by mentioning the importance that choices play in one’s life and commended everyone for making the right choice by coming to IIMB. He emphasized on the importance of Focus and prioritization and appealed to the incoming batch to avoid the trap of herd mentality – “MBB and IB are not the end of the world”, he said. Saugata highlighted the importance of having that undying passion and hunger for being the very best in whatever one does, as nobody remembers the third best or the fourth best person. He advised them to have integrity with their work and not just blindly do activities for CV points. He encouraged them to take risks and not be afraid of failures as failures are a part of life. Infact, a person learns far more from their failures rather than their success. “Take these crucial learnings from the failures. Be a continuous learner reinvent yourself in this everchanging world”, he said.

This was followed by the Director’s speech, who started by explaining the vision of IIM Bangalore to the incoming batch, inspiring them to uphold its values and be the responsible custodians of this institute. He mentioned with great pride about the campus’s beauty and IIMB’s constant efforts to maintain it. He urged everyone to take a pledge to keep the campus green and clean and follow the mantra of zero food wastage. He emphasized on the importance of stress management and urged everyone to reach out to their friends, family, faculty and professional counsellors on campus in case of any help.

The addresses were followed by the distribution of the Director’s Merit List and the term topper awards to the respective students along with the presentation of scholarships. The Students Affairs Council president gave the incoming batch a glimpse of the student life at IIMB.

The inauguration ceremony ended by a cultural performance and an inspiring speech by Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
