IIMB Commemorates International Dance Day with Vibrant Performances

IIM Bangalore recently celebrated its inaugural International Dance Day, featuring eleven captivating performances by talented artists from within and beyond the IIMB community. This vibrant afternoon event, conceptualized by Pooja Balasubramanya and compered by Dr. Sudha Rao, beautifully showcased the diverse dance talent on campus.

The celebration began with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by an invocation. The program featured an array of classical and contemporary dance forms, from the graceful Geetham by young Manvi B N and Riyanshi Vyas, to Lakshmi Menon’s Natesha Kauthuvam, and Barnali Debnath’s elegant Tarana. A highlight was Anupama Gurumurthy’s return to the stage after 25 years with a poised Nataraja Kauthuvam. The audience was enthralled by a Tarangam (Govardhana Giridhara) performed by Sahitee Kalyani, Akshata S Girisagar, Ankitha S Girisagar, Vanisha K.S, and Poorvah Shekar, followed by an exquisite Odissi performance by Chief Guest Guru Karishma Ahuja.

The event continued with Nayanika Chakraborty’s Kathak rendition to ‘aaj jaane ki zidd’, Pooja Balasubramanya’s Padam, Bidula Basu’s enchanting Devi Stotra, and Navya Surendran’s energetic Thillana. The grand finale was a mesmerizing Tarana – Chaturang by Prof. Sreelata Jonnalagedda, leaving the audience spellbound. The successful event concluded with a Mangalam, promising an even grander celebration next year.
