Leading the Green Charge: IIM Bangalore’s Bold Net Zero Commitment

IIM Bangalore reaffirms its commitment to climate action, setting ambitious Net Zero targets for its campus operations. The Institute aims to achieve Net Zero Scope 2 emissions by 2030 and Scope 1 emissions by 2035, covering its densely populated residential campus. This pledge aligns with the release of their third-party audited Sustainability Report, detailing a nearly 10% reduction in absolute emissions and a 25% per capita reduction between 2019-2024, despite campus growth.

Further solidifying its green initiatives, IIMB has launched a new core course on ‘Responsible Business & Sustainability’ for its PGP-2 cohort. The campus also inaugurated a new EV fleet, generously donated by the PGP 1998 batch, and expanded grassroots initiatives like repurposing collected books and a sanitary waste recycling system, demonstrating a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

Unlocking $18 Trillion: Roundtable Explores the ‘Purple Economy’

IIM Bangalore recently hosted a pivotal roundtable on the “Purple Economy,” exploring its transformative potential for global economic growth. Held on June 2, 2025, the dialogue, themed ‘Unlocking $18 Trillion in Global Opportunity,’ focused on how disability accessibility intersects with and reshapes markets, driving innovation and delivering sustainable value worldwide.

The event, led by EnAble India, highlighted the shift from a rights-based to a value-based approach for persons with disabilities, emphasizing their economic contributions. Speakers discussed the “double multiplier effect,” where products designed for accessibility benefit everyone, citing examples like the eyewear industry. IIMB underscored its commitment to inclusive excellence by ensuring the event was fully accessible with sign language interpreters and real-time text. Participants stressed the immense revenue loss from non-accessible businesses, urging stakeholders to “create conditions for success” in this burgeoning economic sector.
