IIM Bangalore Research Recognised by IBBI for Insights on IBC’s Behavioural Impact

A recent study by IIM Bangalore’s Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM) has been featured by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) for offering fresh perspectives on how the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) is shaping borrower behaviour and credit practices in India.
Conducted by Dr. Jayadev M, Dr. Abhinav Anand, Dr. Aishwarya Krishna, and IIMB alumnus Prof. Srijith Mohanan, the study draws on extensive data from NeSL, RBI, IBBI, and CMIE Prowess, covering the period from 2010 to 2024.
The research points to a significant shift in the corporate credit culture. Since the implementation of IBC, delayed loan repayments have dropped sharply, and gross NPAs have reduced from 11.2% in 2018 to 2.8% in 2024. The study also notes improved governance practices, with resolved companies seeing greater board independence—underscoring IBC’s wider influence beyond just debt recovery.
Prof. Maya Ganesh Wins Prestigious Ralph Gomory Award for Research on Public Welfare Delivery

Prof. Maya Ganesh from IIM Bangalore has been honoured with the 2025 Ralph Gomory Best Industry Studies Paper Award for her co-authored research on improving access to public welfare programs in India.
The award, given annually to the most influential paper across ten top-tier management journals, recognises the study titled “Technology-Enabled Agent Choice and Uptake of Social Assistance Programs: Evidence from India’s Food Security Program.” Co-authors include Prof. Sarang Deo and Prof. Sripad Devalkar from ISB, and Rakesh Allu, PhD scholar at Cornell University.
Published in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, the paper investigates how offering beneficiaries the choice of agents in the Public Distribution System impacts participation. Drawing from extensive data across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and using a reverse difference-in-differences approach, the study found a 6.6% increase in uptake—especially in regions with higher agent density.
The findings offer valuable lessons for designing more inclusive and efficient social programs.
