Paytm ropes in Vishal Shah as VP-talent and organizational development
Dr. Vishal Shah PCC, an alumnus of IIMB, PGP 1995 and FPM 1999, has been appointed as the VP Talent and Organizational Development by E-commerce and fintech major – Paytm.
Dr. Shah is an expert in leadership development, senior management facilitation and talent management and has varied experience in the education, IT, BPO and retail space.

Ed-tech startup SoME raises angel funding
School of Meaningful Experiences Pvt. Ltd (SoME), a skills and learning development focussed education-technology startup, has raised capital as part of its angel funding round.
The Bengaluru-based company said in a statement it will use the funds for its operational expansion and acquiring talent to improve its services. SoME was founded by Rakesh Godhwani in 2018, who is an alumnus of IIM-Bangalore and Cardiff Metropolitan University. He has worked with several non-profits and educational institutions, including IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Udaipur and many leading corporate companies.
SoME says it helps students and young professionals enhance various skills including ones related to leadership, scientific and creative thinking. It primarily focusses on students and professionals between the ages of 13 and 30. Some of the programmes it offers include leadership-oriented conventions, summer camps and debating championships.
Significance of Labour Day
Shreyas Joshi, PGP 2018, writes a very interesting blog where he pens his thoughts and points of view. In his latest blog, he talks about the International Significance of labour day.

May 1 is marked as International Labour Day, also referred to as May Day. The day celebrates labourers and the working class.
Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement in the United States.
During industrialisation in the beginning of the 19th Century, industrialists used to exploit the labour class and made them work up to 15 hours a day. The workers rose against this exploitation and demanded paid leaves, proper wages and breaks for the workforce.
The eight-hour day labour movement advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. Labour Day annually celebrates the achievements of the workers.
While the day has a different stories for different countries, the main reason for Labour Day is the unfair treatment of the labour class.
